Threat at Freeman School Determined Not Credible

Students and Staff are Safe

A Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Freeman School Resource Deputy, assisted by Spokane County, Spokane Valley Deputies, Washington State Patrol Troopers, and other law enforcement agencies, searched Freeman High School and contacted additional buildings on the campus after being notified of a phone threat.  The threat was determined to be not credible, and the students and staff were not in danger at any time.

On October 28, 2024, at approximately 11:00 am, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, including the Freeman School Resource Deputy (SRD), were informed of a threat received by a local crisis line.

The SRD, already at the school, notified the Freeman School Administration, which, in an abundance of caution, placed the school on lockdown for the safety of students and staff.

Several additional Spokane County and Spokane Valley Deputies responded, with the assistance of WSP and other local law enforcement agencies.  They searched the school while contacting the other school district facilities to ensure everyone was safe and secure.

Deputies determined the threat was not credible and that students/staff were not in danger at any time.

The call and the identity of the caller remain under investigation.

We realize the fear these threat calls cause students, staff, and our community.   Overwhelmingly, they are determined to be hoaxes, but we must treat them as potentially valid until we know differently.

Please know that the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Spokane Valley Police Department, and our area law enforcement partners will continue to work closely with our school districts to keep students and staff safe.
