RAVEN Investigation into Shooting at Apartment Complex
Yields Arrests and Firearms
RAVEN (Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement & Narcotics) Task Force Investigators served several search warrants at multiple locations in connection with an ongoing investigation into a shooting on August 25, 2024, at approximately 9:40 pm in an apartment complex parking lot, 5008 E Buckeye Avenue. Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Deputies, Spokane Regional EDU (Explosives Disposal Unit), Spokane Regional ASU (Air Support Unit), and Crisis Negotiators assisted in serving the warrants.
A juvenile male suspect (16) and an adult male, 19-year-old Roberto L. Villa, were arrested. RAVEN investigators seized multiple firearms, clothing believed to have been worn the night of the shooting, $4,000 in cash, and several suspected illegal controlled substances (Cocaine, Methamphetamine, pills, and Psilocybin Mushrooms)
On August 25, 2024, at approximately 9:40 pm, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex, 5008 E. Buckeye Avenue. Callers advised they heard 5-10 shots, people yelling and running, and vehicles fleeing the area.
Deputies interviewed witnesses, collected video surveillance of the incident, spent shell casings, and additional evidence. No one reported being injured during the incident.
The following afternoon, a Glock 9mm pistol was found in a grassy area near the shooting scene and seized as evidence.
RAVEN Task Force Investigators were assigned to continue this investigation.
Through the months-long investigation, RAVEN Detectives identified two of the people believed to have fired a weapon during the incident. They also located additional information indicating the shooting occurred between two groups of people when an argument escalated, along with evidence of suspected gang-associated activity.
On February 3, 2025, RAVEN Task Force members, assisted by Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Deputies, Crisis Negotiators, Spokane Regional ASU, and Spokane Regional EDU, served several search warrants in connection with this case.
Two suspects, a 16-year-old juvenile male, and 19-year-old Roberto L. Villa, were arrested. RAVEN Investigators recovered and seized multiple firearms, clothing believed to have been worn the night of the shooting, $4,000 in cash, and several suspected illegal controlled substances (Cocaine, Methamphetamine, pills, and Psilocybin Mushrooms).
Villa, a 5-time convicted felon and prohibited from legally possessing a firearm, was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree. Villa remains in custody at the time of this release, with his total case bond set at $500,000. (Villa has previous felony convictions for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree, Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and three counts of Assault 2nd Degree.)
The juvenile was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Facility for Assault 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree.
RAVEN continues to investigate this shooting and any associated criminal activity. Additional arrests and charges are possible if warranted.
