Fatal Auto/Pedestrian Crash on E. Appleway Avenue
Spokane Valley Traffic Unit Investigators are on the scene of a fatal auto/pedestrian collision on E. Appleway Avenue and N. Michigan Road.
On December 31, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., Spokane Valley Deputies were called to the scene of a reported auto/pedestrian collision at the intersection of E. Appleway Avenue and N. Michigan Road, east of Barker Road.
From statements gained at the scene, the adult female pedestrian (60s) was crossing Appleway, from north to south, when she was struck by a 2000 Honda passenger car traveling east. The adult female driver (70s) of the Honda remained at the scene, where she was contacted by responding Deputies.
Deputies and Spokane Valley Fire personnel arrived and relieved citizens already providing first aid. Despite everyone’s efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Traffic Unit Investigators were called to investigate this fatal crash.
SIRT Team Volunteers and a Spokane County Sheriff’s Chaplin also responded to assist.
Initial information indicates the vehicle’s driver did not see the pedestrian crossing the roadway. Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in this fatal crash. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with Investigators. She was later released without charges.
This remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the decedent’s name at a later time when appropriate.
