Drug Investigation Yields Large Amounts of DMT, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Toxic Waste, and Weapons

Drug Investigation Yields Large Amounts of DMT, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Toxic Waste, and Weapons, all within Close Proximity of Two Schools

Spokane County Investigative Unit (SCIU) Detectives conducted an investigation into the sales of illegal drugs.  SCIU Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence, arrested the suspect, and seized large quantities of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), Psilocybin Mushrooms, multiple gallons of toxic waste, and firearms, all within close proximity of two schools.

On March 17, 2025, Spokane County Investigative Unit (SCIU) Detectives arrested a suspect, 34-year-old Zachary S. Kennedy, charging him with four counts of Possession/Delivery/Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance, Hazardous Waste Violations, and Unlawful Use of a Building for Drug Purposes and booked Kennedy into the Spokane County Jail.

These charges result from a lengthy investigation where SCIU Detectives obtained a search warrant for Kennedy’s residence (which he rents) in the 2900 block of N. Perry Street, which is near two schools.  They served the search warrant on March 5, 2025, and arrested Kennedy, booking him into jail for two counts of Possession/Delivery/Manufacturing a Controlled Substance.  Investigators remained at the location, determined to be a DMT Extraction Lab and a Psilocybin Mushrooms grow operation, and processed/collected evidence while seizing large quantities of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), Psilocybin Mushrooms, multiple gallons of toxic waste, and firearms. (Smith and Wesson M & P Rifle, Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, Colt .45 caliber Revolver, SCCY 9mm Pistol)

The Washington State Department of Ecology assisted with transporting and destroying multiple gallons of recovered hazardous waste.  It was explained that during the manufacturing of DMT, a Naphtha layer is extracted and put in glass jars, which were then placed in the freezer for several days.  This is extremely dangerous as Naphtha is a highly flammable and explosive liquid, similar to gasoline, and created a substantial likelihood of “imminent danger” for anyone near the clandestine DMT lab.

On March 6, 2025, as SCIU continued its investigation, Kennedy appeared for his hearing in Spokane County Superior Court.  At that time, Spokane County Superior Court Commissioner T. Rugel ordered Kennedy to be released on his own recognizance.

On March 17, 2025, with probable cause to charge Kennedy with six new felony charges, SCIU Detectives located and arrested Kennedy.

Kennedy was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for four new charges of Possession/Delivery/Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance (MDMA/DMT/Psilocybin Mushrooms), Hazardous Waste Violations, and Unlawful Use of a Building for Drug Purposes, all within close proximity of two schools.

N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is the prototypical indolethylamine hallucinogen. DMT is used for its psychoactive effects. The intense effects and short duration of action are attractive to individuals who want the psychedelic experience but do not choose to experience the mind-altering perceptions over an extended period of time as occurs with other hallucinogens, like lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). DMT is generally smoked or consumed orally in brews like Ayahuasca. (DEA, Drug Enforcement Administration Information)
