Dive Team Locates Adult Male Believed Drowned in Newman Lake
Detectives Continue to Investigate – Foul Play Not Suspected
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, Emergency Operations Team, and Newman Lake Fire Department searched for an adult male last seen on a dock at Newman Lake. The following day, Emergency Operations Team members located the deceased male underwater near the dock. Major Crimes Detectives continue to investigate, but at this time, foul play is not suspected.
On April 6, 2025, at approximately 3:50 pm, Spokane County Deputies responded to a missing person report in the 12500 block of N. Newman Lake Road.
Arriving Deputies learned an adult male (34) was last seen on an area dock during the evening of April 5, 2025.
Newman Lake Firefighters searched the lake by boat, and the Spokane County Emergency Operations Team (EOT) also responded to assist. After several hours, the male was not located, and the search was suspended for the evening.
On April 7, 2025, the Spokane County Emergency Operations Team (EOT) resumed their efforts and located/recovered the deceased male at approximately 11:00 am in about 7 feet of water. EOT members noted the water temperature at the time was approximately 52 degrees, which is considered extremely cold and poses a significant risk of hypothermia, which could lead to drowning/death without proper protection.
Major Crimes Detectives are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what led to this deadly incident, but at this early stage, foul play is not suspected.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the decedent, along with his cause and manner of death, when appropriate.
