Detectives Arrest Suspect for Malicious Prosecution and False Reporting

Spokane County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives, investigating a domestic violence (DV) assault incident that was reported on September 30, 2024, developed evidence that the person thought to be the victim was being untruthful.   On Friday, October 18, 2024, Detectives charged 34-year-old Shawna R. Langdon with Malicious Prosecution, False Reporting, and Making False Statements to a Public Servant, and she was booked into jail.

On September 30, 2024, at approximately 3:20 pm, Spokane County Deputies, assisted by Airway Heights Police Officers, responded to the report of a possible domestic violence assault at a residence near S. Holly Road and W. Silver Street on the West Plains.

Deputies/Officers contacted the adult female victim inside the home.  She was provided treatment at the scene and transported to the hospital to be evaluated and provided further care for non-life-threatening physical wounds.

The suspect, identified by the victim, was not located when Deputies arrived.

Major Crimes Detective responded to the scene to investigate.

Through the ongoing investigation, Detectives gained evidence indicating that the initially reported victim was not being truthful with them.

Detectives later developed probable cause to believe that the adult female, identified as 34-year-old Shawna R. Langdon, was maliciously and without probable cause, implicating a male known to her as the suspect in her violent assault, potentially leading to possible felony and misdemeanor charges being filed against him.

Langdon has reported being a victim of other recent assaults, which remain under investigation.

Langdon was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for charges of Malicious Prosecution, False Reporting, and Making False Statements to a Public Servant.

As these investigations remain active, no additional information is available at this time.
