UPDATE: Fatal Shooting Suspect Identified and Arrested
Spokane County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives identified Saturday morning’s fatal shooting suspect. With the assistance of several additional law enforcement agencies, he was taken into custody without incident Monday afternoon in Hayden, Idaho.
We thank the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Department of Corrections, U.S. Border Patrol, Idaho State Police, and the U.S. Marshal Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force (PNVOTF) for their assistance in locating and peacefully arresting this suspect.
Through the continued investigation, Spokane County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives identified the suspected shooter as 43-year-old Johnathan M. Bryman.
Initial information indicates Bryman and the victim, identified by the Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office as 53-year-old William McCreight, met at the parking lot in the northwest corner of E. Trent Avenue and N. Argonne Road for what is believed to be a possible drug deal. At some point, Bryman pulled out a handgun and shot McCreight before fleeing the parking lot in his vehicle.
McCreight was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bryman never attempted to contact law enforcement after the shooting, and Detectives developed probable cause to charge Bryman with Murder 2nd Degree.
Late in the afternoon of October 14, 2024, Detectives, with the assistance of PNVOTF and several additional law enforcement agencies, located Bryman at a residence near N. Maple Street and Rapatti Way in Hayden, Idaho. Bryman was peacefully taken into custody and charged as a Fugitive from Justice pending extradition to Spokane County.
This remains an active investigation, and additional charges or arrests are possible.
