Caught in the Act: Deputies Arrest 2 Adults and 1 Juvenile for Burglary 2nd Degree, Malicious Mischief 2nd Degree, and Criminal Conspiracy

Spokane County Sheriff’s Unit Deputies responded to a possible active burglary at an auto parts salvage yard in Mead.  They contacted three suspects and developed probable cause to charge them with three felony crimes, including Burglary 2nd Degree.  The two adults were booked into jail, and the third suspect was booked into the juvenile detention center.

On October 7, 2024, at approximately 8:30 pm, Spokane County Deputies responded to the report of a possible burglary in progress at Pull and Save, 11125 N. Market Street.  The offsite security company observed a male on their camera system who appeared to be looking under vehicles inside the fenced area.

They also observed a second suspect just outside the fence on E. Parksmith Drive.

Arriving Deputies located a Ford Fusion parked on the side of Parksmith in the general location and contacted the driver, 18-year-old Lauryn S. McIntosh.  She said she was out of gas and waiting for her mom to help her.  The Deputy observed two dirty tires in the backseat of the car and asked about them.  Lauryn said she had them for a few days because her car needed its tires replaced.

She claimed not to know about anyone being at Pull and Save and again stated she ran out of gas.  The Deputy asked her to turn on the ignition to activate her gas gauge, which showed the tank was approximately ½ full.  Lauryn was detained pending an investigation.

Minutes later, a second suspect, 28-year-old Alex J. Straub was located hiding behind a tree a short distance from Lauryn’s vehicle, and detained.  Straub provided the name of a third suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, but he did not know where he was.

Deputies found multiple headlights on the ground near where Straub was found hiding.  They also found two Ford tires nearby that matched those found in the backseat of Lauryn’s vehicle.

The juvenile suspect was found balled up and lying on the ground next to the fence. The Deputy also observed a large hole in the fence just south of where he located the juvenile. As the Deputy walked the juvenile back to the patrol cars, he made statements explaining that he was sleeping while he waited for his sister (Lauryn) to pick him up.

Based on the evidence and statements obtained, Deputies determined probable cause existed to charge all three suspects with Burglary 2nd Degree, Malicious Mischief 2nd Degree, and Criminal Conspiracy.

Lauryn and Straub were transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on these charges.

The 17-year-old juvenile was transported and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for the same charges.
