Deputy Stabbed by Suspect at Welfare/Crisis Call

A Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy was violently assaulted and stabbed by a female suspect during a welfare/crisis call in North Spokane County.  The Deputy was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition as he continues to be evaluated.

The suspect was taken into custody and will face felony charges as this investigation continues.

As a member of our agency was injured during this incident, the Spokane Police Department is assisting with the investigation through a mutual aid request.

Initial information indicates that this afternoon, August 22, 2024, at approximately 4:25 pm, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a female walking up and down the road, through yards, and climbing fences in the 24000 block of N. Dalton Avenue.  Additional callers reported the erratic female’s behavior and that she was running around calling for help.

Deputies arrived in the 3900 block of W. Wild Rose Road and contacted her.  Within minutes, Deputies advised they were ‘Code 6’ requesting emergency assistance.   Seconds later, Deputies advised that the female was in custody and requested medics to evaluate her.   Deputies then advised medics were also needed for a Deputy who had been stabbed.

The Deputy was stabbed in the upper left chest and was bleeding heavily.  He was transported to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.  He continues to be medically evaluated, and his family has been notified.

The female is in custody and faces felony charges.

Since our Deputy is a victim of a violent assault and was seriously injured during this incident, the Spokane Police Department is assisting with the investigation through a mutual aid request.

Sheriff Nowels is at the hospital with our injured Deputy, and no additional information will be provided this evening.
