After Receiving a Real-Time Crime Center ALPR Alert, Deputies Located a Vehicle Reported Stolen in Texas and Arrested the Driver
Spokane County and Spokane Valley Deputies began looking for a reported stolen Dodge Durango (Florida License Plate) after they were advised of a Real-Time Crime Center Automated License Plate (Flock) Reader (ALPR) Alert. The Durango was located, and Deputies detained the adult female driver. Through their investigation, Deputies learned the rental vehicle was reported stolen in Texas, and they later arrested the driver.
On December 5, 2024, at approximately 6:45 am, a Spokane Regional Emergency Communications Dispatcher advised Spokane County and Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies of an ALPR Alert regarding a reported stolen Dodge Durango with Florida license plates, last seen traveling south on N. Argonne Road.
Deputies searched the area, located the vehicle in the 2300 block of N. Argonne, and confirmed the Florida license plate before contacting and detaining the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Mogan A. Jewell.
Jewell was informed of her rights and agreed to answer questions. She explained that she rented the Durango in Dallas, TX, on October 21, 2024, and then drove it to Spokane. She admitted she was only supposed to have the vehicle for one day but became too busy to return it. Jewell claimed that her attempts to contact the rental company to extend her rental agreement were unsuccessful. However, she did say she received a message from the rental company warning her it would be reported as stolen if she failed to return it.
Deputies obtained and reviewed the Dallas Fort Worth Airport Police Department report, which indicated that Jewell rented a Dodge vehicle on October 20, 2024. The rental company wanted to pursue charges as Jewell had not returned the Durango as required in the rental agreement.
Jewell was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
The Dallas Fort Worth Airport Police Department was informed that the vehicle had been recovered, but attempts to notify the rental agency were unsuccessful. Deputies towed the Durango to ensure its safety until the rental agency could arrange to pick it up.
